History: The Czechoslovak federal republic was dissolved on December 31, 1992, and the two republics Czech and Slovakia were born on January 1, 1993 (See Czech Republic for details).
Location: Slovakia is bounded by Poland, Ukraine, Czech republic, Austria and Hungary. In the former Czechoslovakia, Slovakia was less industrialized than the Czech land.
Agriculture: Wheat, barely, potatoes, vegetables, fruits, sugar beet. In 1993, agriculture produced 20% of GDP.
Industry: Metallurgy, Engineering, chemical, textile, glass. Main exports are chemicals, plastics, tractors and electronic items.
Minerals: Coal, magnetite, metallic ore.
The Danube is the most important river. The underground ice and icicle caves are great tourist attractions, one of the largest being the Demanovska Cave of Freedom.
