Vivekananda Memorial - Kanniyakumari
A Memorial to Swami Vivekananda- the Indian philosopher and teacher - is another popular tourist attraction. Vivekananda came here in 1892 and meditated on a rock before setting out on the most important religious crusade to propagate Hinduism. The memorial was built on two rocky islands, which project from the sea about 200 metres from the shoreline. It has used architectural styles from all parts of India. A boat service is available to reach the island.
Thiruvalluvar Statue:
Another unique feature is the Thiruvalluvar Statue, is also a beautiful tourist spot, located near to Vivekananda Memorial. It was opened by the Tamil Nadu Government. The 133 feet high statue of Thiruvalluvar, the great 2nd century Tamil poet, spreads beauty to the viewers.
