Marina Beach - Chennai
The glorious Marina Beach is 13 km long and very wide offering excellent walks. Along the shore, there are many buildings built during the British Raj. The South Beach Road runs past the Madras University, the Senate House, the Chepauk Palace (Nawabs of Carnatica once held their court here).
The Marina of Madras is the second longest beach in the world. it is an elegant promenade with flower beds along its lanes. It easily resembles the coasts of the French Riviera or Italy with its glistening sand beaches. Its width is upto 300 metres. But the Riviera crowds are not in Chennai and there is a reason for it. The sea water have sharks and swimming is not recommended. As a consolation, perhaps, there is a swimming pool at the Marina next to the Madras Aquarium.
Ice House
Near the Aquarium in the same area, there is another interesting building called Ice House – a memento of the East India Company days. Here the Americans brought ice all the way from New England in USA and stored it for the comforts of the rich English businessmen during the pre-air-conditioning days.

San Thome Cathedral is the main pilgrim centre in Chennai. This cathdral has the tomb of St. Thomas, one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ.
