Kotagiri and Coonoor - Hill Resorts
Kotagiri:
Besides Ootacamund, there are other hill resorts in the Nilgiri Hills. Kotagiri is 2200 metres above sea level, and only 20 kms from Ootacamund. Kotagiri is an island of green fields, surrounded by thick forests. It is one of the quietest spots in the Nilgiris.
Coimbatore, a large industrial city of Tamil Nadu, is the gateway to the Nilgiri Hill Resort of Ootacamund and other places. The little mountain train to Ooty starts from here.
Coonoor:
Coonoor is located 19 kms away from Udhagamandalam (Ooty) and is on the way to Coimbatore. It stands on a lower ridge of the plateau at an altitude of 1,858 metres (6100 feet) and is the second largest hill stations in The Nilgiris.
Coonoor, 26 kms down the mountain railway line, is at an altitude of about 2000 metres. The climate is pleasant throughout the year. Coonoor is surrounded by tea plantations, pleasant walks and provides opportunities for hikers.
