Kamakshiamman Temple - Kanchipuram
An interesting feature of Kanchipuram is that it is a city of festivals. There is always one or the other festival taking place in the city connected with its many temples. It may be advisable to coincide your visit with a major temple festival. One such festival is the Car Festival held at the Kamakshiamman Temple. It is held sometimes in February or March. On this occasion, deities are taken out on elaborately decorated wooden chariots against an extravagant backdrop of fire-cracker, fairs, street acrobats and folk theatre. Similar festivals are celebrated by other temples during April to coincide with the Tamil New Year.
