Aazhiyaar Dam - Coimbatore
The Aazhiyaar dam is 24 km away from Pollachi in Coimbatore district. The Aazhiyaar dam was built during the period of 1959 to 1969 across the river Aazhiyaar. The ultimate objective of constructing this dam is for irrigation. The dam comprises several dams getting interlinked by tunnels and canals for remaining Aliyar, Sholaiyar, Nirar, Thunakadavu, Parambikulam, Thekkadi and Palar rivers, confining at diverse altitudes for the purpose of generating electricity and irrigation. The Aazhiyaar dam is an excellent illustration for Engineering masterwork. The dam is 81 meter height from the deep ground and this dam is a far-famed picnic spot.
