Jaipur
Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan state. It is Known as the pink city as many buildings are constructed using the pink coloured sand stone. The city of jaipur has seven gates. The state was ruled by Rajputs over a thousand years. The place on wheelis a special Tourist. Train that operates weekly tours of Rajasthan. The train starts from Delhi.
Places of interest:
1. Hawa Mahal - situated on the main street of jaipur. This magnificent building has five stories built of pink sand stone in 1799. it was built to enable the place ladies to watch the daily life and few processions of the city Cool breeze always blow through the windows here.
2. city Palace - The place is a blend of Rajasthani and Mugal architecture. The centre of the palace is a 7 storey Chandra Mahal. The ground floor is made a museum housing arte facts, old weapons etc. the Diwani - I - is a decorated place housed with - manuscripts in Persiam and Sanskrit.
3. Jantar- Mantar- It is the observatory built by the Maharaja Jai Singh who was an astronomer also. The Sundial here is the most attractivw instrument with its gnoman that casts a shadow which moves upto four metres an hour.
Zoo, Central Museum,Ambar fort (11 Kms) are other spots of interest. Amber Fort Cum Palaces has Jalmahal and Maha Kali Temple. The zoo in the Ram Niwas Gardens has birds, animals and a crocodile Park.
Elephant festivalis held in Jaipur during the month of March every year. This attracts a lot of Visitors.
Udaipur
This city of lakes was built by Maharana Udai Singh. The Pichola Lake is an enchanting one. It is four Kms long and three kms wide. In the lake Jag Nivas and Jag Mandir are the two islands. The palace is situated on the left bank of the lake.
The city palace is the biggest in Rajasthan. It has many balconies and towers. The main part of the place is now converted into a museum. The Manak Mahal, Krishna Vilas and Moti Mahal are worth seeing. Near the palave is the Jagdish temple. Lake Fateh Sagar is to the north of lake Pichola around which there are beautiful gardens.
The Bharatiya Lok Museum, Ahar Museum, Saheliyon Ki Bari are some of the tourist places to the witnessed.
Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary
This is 107 Kms from jaipur. The area covered is 200 Sq.kms. the Sanctuary has blue bulls, Spotted deer, Wild boar and tigers. The best season to visit this sanctuary is during July and August.
Alwar
Buses connect sarika with Alwar. The fort, a palace, the Vinay Vilas Mahal and a museum are the places to see.
Jaisamand Lake
It is 48 kms from Udaipur. This was built in the 17th century by Maharana jai Singh. It is the second largest artificial lake in Asia. There are some palaces here.
Ranakpur
It is 98kms from Udaipur , The famous Charumukha temple dedicated to Adinath is situated here. It is one of the biggest Jain temples in India. The temples has 29 halls supported by 1,444 pillars differ from one another.
Jodhapur
318kms from Jaipur. This place is founded by Rao Jodha, a chief of the Rajputs clan.
Meherangarh Fort atop hill, court yards and places inside the fort, museum. Chamunda temple Umaid Gardens and the Government Museum nearby. Umaid Bhavan Palace outside the city are all picturesque places of interest.
Mahamndir (2kms), Balsamand Lake (7kms). The Hall of Heroes containing 15 figures carved out of a rock draws a good number of visitors.
Mount Abu
The nearest Railway station Abu road is 27kms from Mt. Abu. This place is noted for its temples situated in an area 22kms long and 6kms wide. The place is the headquarters of world famous Brahma Kumari Eswariya Vidyalaya.
Mt. Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan, 5kms away from Mr. Abu is the Dilwara Temples. They are the finest examples of Jain architecture in India. The Vimal Vashahi dedicated to the first Tirtankar Adinath and the Tejpal temple dedicated to Neminath, the 22nd tirtankar are the two temples where the carvings are highly superb. These temples are built in 11th and 13th century. Buses ply from Mt. Abu to Abu road, Jaipur and other important places.
Ajmer
Ajmer, 138kms to the south of jaipur is situated on the shore of the Ana Sagar Lake. This is a major pilgrimage centre for muslims, especially during Ramzan mounth.
Dargha, the tomb of a Sufi Saini, the mosque, Tara Garh (3kms). Akbar's Palace, Ajamer museum are the places of interest. The Ana Sagar lake is formed by buildings a dam acress the Luni. Daulat Bagh on its banks is also to be seen.
Jaisalmer
This city is 295kms away from Jodhpur. it is well known for embroidery Rajasthan mirror work.
There are some beautiful havelis. Patwan Ki Haveli is the magnificient one whose apartment is painted with beautiful murals. Salim Singh Ki Haveli is another Haveli that has a beautifully arched roof with carved brackets. Nathmal Ki Haveli is the recent one. Fort with jain temples and two Hindu temples is worth seeing.
Kota
Though an industrial centre, there are some places of tourist interest in this city. Fort, Museum, Chambal Garsens, Jag Mandir, Hydro electric Plants and atomic power plants are to by witnessed.
Bundi is 40kms from kota is a town in a narrow vally Taragarh (star) fort with a pitchure gallery is to be visited here.
Chittorgarh
Also known as Chittor is famous for its fort of historical importance. Inside the fort is the place of Rana Kumbha. Nearby is the Fateh Parkash Palace. This has a museum. The tower of victory or Jaya Stambh found here was erectedby Rana Kumbha in 15th century to commemorate the victory of his victory over Mahamud Kailji of Malwa.
Mahasati and Sati Stones, Samidheswar Temple, Gaumukh Reservoir, Kiriti Stambha, Meera Temple and Kumbha Shyam Temple is other main attrations.
This place is associated with the name of Rani Padmini whose place is south of Gaumukh Reservoir.
Bikaneer
379kms from Jaipur is Bikaneer. This city is famous for its Junagarh Fort. This is 986 meter long with 37 bastions. There are places within the fort of which the Chandra Mahal and the Phool Mahal places are fine with decoration of glass and mirrors. The Karn Mahal, Museum, Library, Lalgarh Palace and its museum, Bhand Sagar temple (5kms) are some of the other picturesque palaces.
Bharatpur
This place is situated on the Agra - Jaipur Road. This is a small town famous for its bird sanctuary. It is now known as the Keavdeo National Park. The best season to visit this place is between October and February. It is 150kms away from Jaipur. The birds jeer come from as for as Siberia and China.Shooting of birds here is not permitted. A fort and a small museum are the other attractions in this town. The Lohagarh fort also called Iron fort.
