If you have not been to the Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary, its time you did. Spread over a sprawling on 17.26 Sq. km, the sanctuary is located in Nagapattinam District. Surrounded by sea and shore, it comprises forests of tidal swamps, dry evergreen forest and mangroves.
Annual rainfall: About 1500 mm
Animals found: Wild boar, chital, spotted deer, bonnet macaque and black buck. If you are lucky around October and November, you got to see dolphins and turtles at close quarters.
Birds found: Flamingos, teals, gulls, terns, plovers, darters, ibises, water herons, little egrets and stilts.
Best Season to visit: Year round
For migratory birds: November to February

Special permission is required from the Forest Range Officer for a visit
The entry fee is Rs.10, and private vehicles are permitted to enter the sanctuary. Boats are available too.
