With name of nearly 8,500 martyrs etched on its walls, the Chandigarh War Memorial is amongst the largest of its kind in the country. Designed by students of the Chandigarh College of Architecture, the monument stands amidst the Bougainvillea Garden in the city’s north. While its walls bear the names of Indian soldiers who have lost their lives in action for August 15, 1947.
The central sculpture stands for the three Services: Army, Navy and Air Force. The Memorial was inaugurated by former President APJ Abdul Kalam on August 17, 2006. It is a sight to behold at night, when the central sculpture is lit up like a flame.
